Claude Pro: My $20-a-Month Coworker
Nine months and $180 in, it's less a subscription and more the coworker who never sleeps, never complains, and does half my prep work.

What it is, what I paid
Claude Pro is Anthropic's paid tier at $20 a month. You get more usage than the free plan, priority when traffic is heavy, new features first, and room for longer tasks. I signed up on January 13, 2026, and nine charges later I'm $180 deep. It bills like clockwork on the 13th, which is how I know exactly what I've spent. Most subscriptions blur into the background. This one doesn't, because twenty bucks is twenty bucks.
How I actually used it
I asked Claude to sort my last 20 chats into themes, partly out of curiosity and partly for this review. Over half were work: certification prep materials, course design, lecture decks, quiz banks. The rest were branding projects, some credential research, news briefings, and one session where I tried to get it to build a game just to see what would happen.
So when I say I use it for "a bit of everything," that's true, but the weighting isn't even close: this thing is my professional workhorse. Its best trick is building presentations. A lecture deck that eats my whole evening takes about an hour when Claude does the drafting and I direct traffic. I've built entire weeks of course material this way.
What's great
It doesn't flake. Nine months in, Claude is the steadiest software I pay for. Hand it a messy, multi-part instruction and it actually does all the parts, which sounds basic until you've watched other models confidently finish two of your five steps and declare victory. For structured work, the kind with rubrics and outlines and "do not invent statistics," it's the best of my subscriptions and it isn't close.
What annoyed me
The price tag, obviously. Twenty a month is real money, and there's no middle step: it's the full Pro plan or a Max tier that costs several times more, with nothing between them. I've bumped into the usage caps a few times, and Anthropic handles it with all the grace of a bouncer. Just a vague "come back later," no word on which limit I hit or when it lifts. For twenty bucks a month, show me the meter. Oh, and Claude Code comes included in the plan. Haven't touched it. Maybe one day.
Verdict: ★★★★★
Five stars, grumbling included. It costs too much, the limits are a mystery, and I re-up every month without thinking about it. Nothing else in my subscription stack earns its keep like this one. Ask me again next month.
